- OARC, Like a Bad Dream
-
-
- Like a bad dream, the Ohio Area REPEATER Council (OARC) has again
- started discussions relating to their taking over other services. Their
- overwhelming need to dominate areas not under their jurisdiction surfaces in
- late winter. As stated in the April, 1991 OARC newsletter:
-
- Another discussion followed regarding the
- O.A.R.C.'s involvement with other VHF interests in
- Ohio, i.e. Packet, ATV, and other modes. Should we be
- a "spectrum management" entity? WB8SMK asked the
- Staff members to make a written recommendation to be
- presented at the November Board meeting.
-
- The ability of a closed group of repeater trustees to dictate operating
- practices to every Ohio amateur using every mode of operation is ridiculous.
- In past years the OARC was known for its unethical treatment of amateurs
- attempting to coordinate new repeaters. Nothing but the continued enthusiasm
- of the new members in OARC keep this from happening again.
- FIRST, no one using VHF for AMSAT, packet, ATV, CW, SSB or any other
- modes needs these repeater trustees dictating their operating practices.
- SECOND, what motivates these repeater trustees to wish to dominate areas of
- the spectrum where they just do not belong?
- To this silly deviation of their intended purpose, Ohio amateurs should
- tell OARC, "SHOO! SCAT! GET! GO AWAY!" Let us hope that we have the right
- to do that ... that OARC does not think it can appoint itself as god over yet
- more amateur operators.
